i was showing a friend flickr's mobile site on the tube yesterday evening and noticed something as we went into a tunnel...
since the whole site is AJAXy and each link is requesting a page part rather than a full page, if a request fails the error is caught by javascript and displays the nice yellow overlay rather than falling back on the (rather ugly) iphone alert boxes.
